1st January 2025 - Looking after yourself
As I write this it's the start of the year and while the weather in much of the country is inclement I want to write about the importance of looking after yourself. Throughout this year I will regularly look at different ways that are cheap and fulfilling to improve us all as a people, I do not wish to preach and everyone who reads this will have there own take on the things I mention, please take these as suggestions and don't feel that you have to do all of them or do them exactly as I have them written, if it creates thought and debate I haven't wasted my time.
Todays topic is walking
Near me is an Oak tree that sits in what can probably best be described as an under used paddock, This Oak is a solace to me, no matter how bad it appears in the newspapers and on TV, that Oak stands tall day after day, it was there long before me and God willing will stand long after me too.
I used to walk every morning with the Dog but she has got lazy in her old age and is now very much a fine weather walker and then no further than absolutely necessary!! I do though find that a walk does wonders to help clear the head and set a clearer path for the day ahead
A few fun facts to ponder on your walk
On average, a person walks 65,000 miles in their lifetime, which is the same as walking around the Earth three times
The word "walk" comes from the Old English word wealcan, which means "to roll"
There is a phenomenal amount of recorded benefit to our mental wellbeing from walking and this is exactly where I feel this positive blog should start, not only does it help focus our fight for the Climate we live in, but also the fitter a person we become, the less any consequences will hit us, particularly extreme Hot and Cold weather events.
I won't go on further except to leave you this one quote from Charles Dickens
“The sum of the whole is this: walk and be happy; walk and be healthy. The best way to lengthen out our days is to walk steadily and with a purpose.”
Have a great Day
